Municipal Recreation Facilities Improvement Project - Township of Brick

PROJECT HISTORY:
Upon taking office as Mayor in 2014, one of the commitments made by the Honorable John G. Ducey to the residents was to improve the township owned recreational facilities. Many of the aging facilities had become outdated and in need of repair or improvement.

Accordingly the Mayor and Township Council authorized Consulting Engineer Gregory R. Valesi P.E., P.P. and C.M.E. of CME Associates to develop cost effective solutions for several of the deteriorating facilities within the township. Immediately Mr. Valesi and his team answered the call and got to work.

CLIENT REQUIREMENTS:
• WORK WITH TOWNSHIP PERSONNEL TO DEVELOP A DESIGN FOR EACH FACILITY THAT SATISFIES THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITIES AND ALL WHO USE THE FACILITIES
• UTILIZE MODERN STATE OF THE ART EQUIPMENT ON NEW FACILITIES
• IMPROVE SAFETY AT ALL FACILITIES
• EASE THE BURDEN OF MAINTENANCE FOR MUNICIPAL STAFF
• SEEK ALTERNATIVE FUNDING SOURCES TO OFFSET COSTS
• PREPARE THE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS
• PROVIDE THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
• HAVE THE FACILITIES COMPLETED PRIOR TO SUMMER

UNIQUE OR UNUSUAL DESIGN FEATURES:
• UNIQUE FENCING SCHEME UTILIZED FOR AESTHETIC AND PRIVACY PURPOSES (Brick Beach 1)
• LANDSCAPING INDIGENOUS TO THE OCEANFRONT AREA UTILIZED (Brick Beach 1)
• UTILIZATION OF PRE-FABRICATED GAZEBO SHADE STRUCTURES FOR COST AND CONSTRUCTION TIME SAVINGS (Lake Riviera Park)
• RETAINING WALL AND FENCING RE-CONSTRUCTION DESIGNED TO ELIMINATE EXISTING
SITE HAZARD (Lake Riviera Park)
• CONSTRUCTION OF DRAINAGE SYSTEM WITH ON-SITE RETENTION ELIMINATING EXISTING FLOODING CONDITIONS (Herbertsville Park)
• SERPENTINE STYLE WALKING PATH CONSTRUCTED TO SPAN THE ENTIRE PARK AND CONNECT THE ADJACENT NEIGHBORHOODS (Herbertsville Park)
• UTILIZE A TENNIS COURT DESIGN PROCESS THAT PREVENTS CRACKING AND IS GUARANTEED FOR TWENTY YEARS (Forge Pond Tennis Courts)
• PARKING LOT AND LIMITED AREA LIGHTING PLAN TO ALLOW FOR SAFETY MEASURES AND EVENING USE OF THE FACILITY (Lake Riviera Park and Herbertsville Park)
• CONSTRUCTION OF AN IRRIGATION SYSTEM TO ALLOW FOR EASE OF MAINTENANCE FOR TOWNSHIP STAFF (Lake Riviera Park and Herbertsville Park)
• UNDERGROUND INFRASTRUCTURE CONSTRUCTED TO ALLOW FOR FUTURE SECURITY CAMERA SYSTEMS (Lake Riviera Park and Herbertsville Park)
• ENHANCED LANDSCAPING PLAN DEVELOPED AND INSTALLED (Lake Riviera Park and Herbertsville Park)

THE RESULT:
Mayor Ducey and the Township Officials have received nothing but praise from all who have been enjoying the new facilities. Through the efforts of Consulting Engineer Gregory R. Valesi, the Township has been able to keep its commitment made. With the completion of the improvements to the four facilities, this diverse Township is well on its way on improving its recreational infrastructure in a matter that will serve its residents and those in neighboring communities for many years to come.
