Manalapan Recreation Center Expansion

For many years, the Manalapan Township Committee saw the need to expand the recreation facilities within the Township due to an increase in the use of the fields at the Manalapan Recreation Center. The Township acquired a 48-acre tract adjacent to the existing Center along Freehold-Englishtown Road (Monmouth County Route 522). The Township desired to utilize this tract to expand and provide additional fields and amenities for the various recreational leagues.

CME Associates was retained by the Township to assist the Recreation Department in developing a conceptual layout of the expansion to adequately serve the various sports that utilize the Center. The overall development of the tract includes the following fields:

• Full Size Natural Turf All Purpose Field
• Full Size Synthetic Turf All Purpose Field
• Full Size Baseball Field
• Two Little League Baseball Fields
• Three Basketball Courts

In addition, the expansion will include a multi age tot lot, picnic pavilion with restrooms, and fitness trails to link to the existing trails.

A major component of the expansion is the multi-purpose synthetic turf field, which will include field striping for soccer, football and lacrosse. The Township included the synthetic turf field in part due to the demands of weekend tournaments held by the recreation soccer club. The synthetic field can be utilized essentially 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and requires less maintenance than a typical grass field. This will ensure that there will always be adequate fields for full time use.
Phase I and 1B of the project is completed, it included the mass earthwork, field grading and drainage installation, construction of the synthetic turf field and baseball fields, underdrain system, underground utilities, irrigation system, the installation of asphalt on the roadways and parking lots, basketball courts, site and sports lighting, In a future contract, County Route 522 roadway widening, concession buildings and site amenities such as fencing, backstops, dugouts, site furnishings, tot lot and landscaping will be added.
