Remsen Avenue Area Storm Sewer Improvements

City of new Brunswick

The Remsen Avenue Area Storm Sewer Improvements project was a New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Trust funded project designed to alleviate local flooding and improve the quality of water discharge into the Raritan River by removing connections from sanitary sewer laterals. Improvements consisted of installation of over 4,700 LF of reinforced concrete pipe ranging in diameter from 18" to 72", at depths of up to 20 feet deep, to replace the Lyle Brook Culvert; a deteriorated brick arch culvert which ran beneath many homes and was subject to collapse. Upon removal and relocation of all connections from the Lyle Brook Culvert to the appropriate sewer system, the Lyle brook Culvert was abandoned in place with cementitious flowable fill to provide stability to the brick arch culvert and prevent future collapse.
